India/Kerala/Kottayam: Catholicos Baselios Martoma Paulose II – Primate of the Indian Orthodox Church has welcomed the statement of Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II of – Primate of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and All East for dialogue to end the age old administrative and ecclesiastical conflict between the two ancient churches of the Oriental Orthodox Communion.

One of the Senior Metropolitans has been appointed as the Patriarchal delegate to coordinate the dialogue in India. Efforts for closer cooperation have been begun at Kottayam and Damascus. As per the official sources the Patriarch will be visiting Kerala in January 2015.

In his recent statement, Chancellor of OCP Society Rt Rev Chorbishop Dr Kyriakose Thottupuram of Chicago also urged meeting between Patriarch of Antioch and Catholicos of the East. Experts consider these developments to be initial positive steps for dialogue and conciliar unity between two ancient churches of the Orthodox East.
