Syria: New Evidence Reveals Systematic Torture, Execution of 11,000 - Aleteia

Vital new evidence has come to light that the Syrian government is guilty of war crimes, including the systematic torture and execution of 11,000 detainees.

The report - compiled by three experts - coincides with the United Nations peace conference on Syria, taking place this week in Geneva.

It was obtained by the Guardian and CNN and was compiled by “Sir Desmond de Silva QC, former chief prosecutor of the special court for Sierra Leone, Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, the former lead prosecutor of former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic, and Professor David Crane, who indicted President Charles Taylor of Liberia at the Sierra Leone court.”

They were also assisted in their investigations by a forensics team: Dr Stuart Hamilton, Professor Susan Black and Stephen Cole.

This specialist inquiry team has conducted a wide scale investigation, analysing thousands of photographs and files of the Syrian government, which document the deaths of persons detained by their security forces between March 2011 and August 2013.
