Very sadly, the Divine Liturgy in English at 9-30 am on Sundays at the Holy Family Cathedral, Lower Church, have had to be put on hold. Until the practicalities we cannot use the Lower Church space. Hopefully this will be resolved very soon. Please keep checking in here for details.

Owing to public health guidance, masks should still be worn indoors and distance maintained. Sanitisers are available. Holy Communion is distributed in both kinds from the mixed and common chalice, by means of a separate Communion spoon for each individual communicant.

Istanbul: Reports from the Synaxis of the Eastern Orthodox Primates points out that, there has been decision made among the Church heads to organize the great and sacred Synod/Council of Orthodoxy in the year 2016.



A preparatory Council/Committee will set up a headed by Bishop of various Churches to prepare all necessary aspects for the implementation of the Great Council. This will also function as the secretariat of the Eastern Orthodox Churches for the great and sacred Synod.

[NB two of the planned subjects will not be discussed (see the previous post of Patriarch Bartholomew's address), namely the manner of declaring an Orthodox Church's canonical autocephaly, and determining the order in which the First Hierarchs are named in the diptychs.]

The Ecumenical Patriarchate wish to hold the Great Council of the Orthodoxy at the historic Church of St. Irene, Old Cathedral of Istanbul next to the Hagia Sophia. A long discussion was also taken place between the Patriarchs of Constantinople and Russia before the first session of the Synaxis of the Orthodox heads.
